Local genealogical library a gem
March 5, 2024, Letter to the Editor by Patrece Ryan: Payson Roundup Newspaper
Good people of Payson and surrounding areas, it seems that many are not aware of the Northern Gila County Genealogical Library. It has been in operation for decades and is currently available to all researching their family. The location is 302 E. Bonita Street in Payson. It has been at this location since 2000, yet I seem to encounter folks that have never heard of it. If the operational hours of Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. don’t meet satisfaction, one can make an appointment. Membership is just $25 for a single and $35 for a family. Membership gives access to Ancestry, voter registration rolls from 1880 to 1900 for Gila County, homestead plat map land records, historical record books by state, mortuary and cemetery records, and local newspapers.. I entered this library in 2008 with paternal questions that were answered within an hour. This led to answers for future generations of my family. Please support this gem in Rim Country. Watch for upcoming talks being planned now by looking up the library online at www.ngcgs.org.
